Finance Minister Ernie Eves has promised middle-class voters an average $625 more a year in their pocket by 2004 - if the Progressive Conservative government wins the election expected next month.

There might be an administrative headache for taxpayers in all this; last week's election campaign platform committed the Tories to bringing in a new Ontario income tax form, much like Quebec has now, which would require people to fill out two tax returns each year.

Eves said the average Ontario homeowner or tenant would save $140 annually. Landlords will be required to pass savings on to their tenants.
