Grey Cup a special affair ; More Canadians will tune in game than any other sports event
[Ontario Edition]

Toronto, Ont.
Barring an early blowout, tomorrow's game will attract upward of 2.5 million viewers if recent history is any indication. In fact, the Super Bowl is the only sports event that outdraws the Grey Cup here, beating the homegrown event by about 1 million viewers last year. That means the Toronto area produced 31 per cent of all Grey Cup viewers and only 24 per cent of Super Bowl watchers. There's another reason, I believe, for the enduring popularity of the Grey Cup. While the importance of the game in our lives has diminished over the decades does anyone hold Grey Cup parties any more? its allure hasn't. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.
