Canada's cities may get a commitment for long-term, permanent infrastructure funding but likely won't see an "urban strategy" in next week's Throne Speech, says Ottawa's ambassador for municipalities.

York West MP Judy Sgro, who headed a task force on urban issues at the behest of Prime Minister Jean Chrtien, said its main recommendation was the development of just such a strategy involving provinces, urban regions and cities.

Transport Minister David Collenette, who also serves as minister responsible for the Greater Toronto Area, said federal announcements in the past year on transit and affordable housing show "a commitment to urban issues."
