Race car driver Jacques Villeneuve, the first Canadian to win the Indianapolis 500, has been named Canada's male athlete of the year by the Canadian Press. Villeneuve beat world champion sprinter Donovan Bailey in a close race for the Lionel Conacher Award, voted on annually by Canadian sports editors and broadcasters.
