Six books are on the shortlist for the 21st Chapters/Books In Canada First Novel Award. The nominees are The Cure For Death By Lightning by Gail Anderson-Dargatz; In Another Place, Not Here by Dionne Brand; Fall On Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald; Self by Yann Martel; Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels; and Cereus Blooms at Night by Shani Mootoo. The winner receives $5,000 - the largest Canadian prize for a first novel. Anderson-Dargatz, MacDonald and Michaels were nominated for last year's Giller Prize.
