Arab satellite television channels said [Saddam Hussein]'s body had been returned to Tikrit for burial today next to his sons Uday and Qusay in the nearby town of Ouja, where Saddam was born. The sons and a grandson were killed in a gun battle with Americans in Mosul in July 2003.

On news of Saddam's death, hundreds of people danced in the streets while others fired guns in the air in Baghdad's Shiite enclave of Sadr City. Some hanged an effigy of Saddam.
