Abstract (Document Summary)

Officials with the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration are seeking public comment on a 1,500-page draft environmental impact statement as they consider possible future operations at the site, located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas. Since nuclear tests were halted in 1992, the site has been used for taking care of the nuclear stockpile, performing smaller-scale tests, training emergency responders for nuclear accidents and a host of other functions.
