[Google], the world's most popular search engine, runs a free program, called AdSense, that enables website owners to display Google-supplied ads on their web pages or blogs (web diaries). Every time someone visits your site and clicks on an ad, you get a cut of the fee Google charges the advertiser. The ads aren't just any ads. AdSense analyses web pages and matches them to ads containing key words that are related to the content of the pages. They usually are text ads from AdWords, the Google program that places the ads (also known as sponsored links) you see when you do Google searches. [Eric Gigure] says some people are offended by the idea of making money off the Internet. They view the Internet as a place where information is available for free. But Gigure notes that the Internet isn't free. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner. Further reproduction or distribution is prohibited without permission.
