After earning his degree and a commission at St. Peter's, he spent three years as News Media Officer and Community Relations Officer at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. After his active duty tour ended, Wevurski returned to the Journal for five years before joining the Pittsburgh (Pa.) Press, first on the news desk, then covering the NHL's Penguins and finally as night sports editor.
