Abstract (Document Summary)

DUTCHTOWN - Language arts teacher Monique Wild wanted to find a way to show her eighth-grade students at Dutchtown Middle School what was wrong with the way they had been reading books.

Wild teamed up with Dutchtown Middle School math teacher Amanda Mayeaux to win a Milken Festival For Youth Community Service Grant, which funded their new literacy program.

Wild said she wants students to fall in love with reading and to show them how romance with books can affect their everyday lives. And under the "For the Love of Literacy" program, Wild and Mayeaux's eighth-graders are expected to get very ambitious and share their enthusiasm for books with students all around the nation.
