Yet this time, Gaynor McCown, executive director of The Teaching Commission, told education leaders that Louisiana and other states need to make sweeping changes in the teaching ranks for students to do better.
"The Teaching Commission firmly believes that the missing link has been an intense, sustained and effective campaign to revamp our country's teaching force," according to the panel's 64-page book titled "Teaching At Risk: A Call To Action."
The Teaching Commission hopes it can muster enough political muscle in eight or 10 states, possibly including Louisiana, to launch some of its ideas.
