Students who participate in the classes perform better on standardized tests and academic exams, and officials are looking to expand the classes to more students and more schools, said Nicole Boudreaux, the school system's immersion specialist. A task force this fall recommended several changes, including consolidating some immersion classes at some elementary schools, creating a new immersion school in south Lafayette Parish and offering high school students foreign languages and international studies.
