Abstract (Document Summary)
During a Monday night forum at The Daily Advertiser on poverty and education, Myrtle Place Elementary Principal Janice Moncrief said teachers of students who live in poverty often spend extra time helping those children build their vocabularies, creating structure and repetition, and building background knowledge on even simple concepts. Moncrief added that J.W. Faulk's school performance score consistently increased, telling her that even schools in areas with high poverty can improve with the right kind of work ethic.
