Some consumers fear a Florida Board of Medicine committee will go too far when it weighs restrictions on the drugs' use today in Tampa.
That's too short a time for people like Bobbie Schaffnit, who lost more than 50 pounds in nine months on phen-fen - a combination of phentermine and fenfluramine - recently tied to heart-valve deformities and other serious side effects.
The board's rules committee wants to set limits on the way doctors prescribe drugs like recently released Redux, or dexfenfluramine, and older appetite-control drugs phentermine and fenfluramine.
