Our lawmakers, having solved all the other problems of the state, are trying to require that welfare recipients in Florida be subject to random drug testing. They also say that welfare recipients who win more than $100,000 in the state lottery should be forced to give half of it back.
So does this mean that if Wayne Huizenga - South Florida gazillionaire sports owner and recipient of a $60-million stadium tax break - wins the Florida Lottery, he should have to give half of it back?
Or George Steinbrenner? The people of Hillsborough County built him a $30-million ballpark on Dale Mabry Highway named Legends Field. It is a fine place and I was all for it, but does George deserve to keep his lottery winnings after such public assistance?
