Boulder Venture South, the company redeveloping the Pinellas ParkSide mall, has a contract to buy the ailing Crossroads Mall and will close on the property in the next 30 days.
Built in 1984, the former Bay Area Outlet Mall at the intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard and U.S. 19 has dealt with empty storefronts for years. A Miami company bought the 285,000-square- foot property five years ago, renamed it Crossroads Mall and tried to turn it around.
Largo officials say Boulder Venture South's proposal fits into the city's strategic plan, which envisions a pedestrian-friendly urban activity center at that site. The plan also calls for the redevelopment of the 29-acre county property behind the 34-acre mall.
