There's more than dinner to the cow (the same holds true for pigs and chickens). The agriculture industry uses "everything but the moo" so if you're skipping beef for fear of mad cow, you should reconsider throat lozenges and breath mints. And don't lick lipstick.
RENDERED CARCASSES: lard, beef tallow and gelatin, which are used in fertilizers, livestock feed, canned ham, sour cream, frosting, lozenges and soups. Gelatin is in some gel-cap medication and in jelly beans and marshmallows. Glycerine is made from rendered carcasses and then used in crayons, cosmetics, tape, fabric softener.
