University of Texas pitcher/designated hitter Brooks Kieschnick was honored Friday as winner of the Dick Howser Trophy.
The award, founded by the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, is given to the top college baseball player in the country, based on criteria that included on-field performance, leadership, moral character and courage.
Kieschnick was named winner of the award in June. The formal presentation was made at the 1993 MegaSports Banquet Friday night at the Bayfront Center. Kieschnick was pitching for the Longhorns in Texas and was unable to attend.
