SHEEN, Jeanette B. 93 years old, of St. Petersburg, passed away June 28, 2012 at St. Petersburg General Hospital. Jeanette or "Teekie" as she was known by some family and close friends was born at home in Osceola Mills, PA. She grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Altoona High School in Altoona, PA. Jeanette was a beloved wife, mother, and sister who served the citizens of Pinellas County as a Registered Nurse in numerous local hospitals and health facilities. During her career, she specialized as a hospital nurse and nursing director in various health facilities in the St. Petersburg area and received advanced training in cardiac treatment as well as administration and education. Jeanette enjoyed the opportunity to briefly teach other young health professionals at St. Petersburg College but spent most of her nursing career in the area she loved the most: directly working with the patients who needed her. In her youth, Jeanette was an active member of the Assemblies of God (Pentecostal Church) and as an adult she became involved with the Methodist Church and most recently, Central Christian Churches. After marrying her husband, Milton Roy Sheen, Jeanette worked as a partner in his child photography business in Pennsylvania. He would photograph the families and she would oil paint the final products. Jeanette was a gifted artist, poet, writer, and a creator of music. Among her many accomplishments as a young woman was her composition of an entire Easter Music Cantata which was performed at her church in Pennsylvania. Jeanette's lifelong dream was to enter the field of medicine so when her husband moved the family to Pinellas County in 1952, she decided to continue her education and become an adult student with her three young children. Jeanette graduated from St. Petersburg Jr. College with an AA degree in nursing and later received her Bachelor's Degree in nursing with an additional major in psychology from St. Leo College where she was recognized as a member of the Gamma Alpha Honor Society. Jeanette was an active member of her church and her community but she always made her family her first priority. She was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren and encouraged them to always serve others in whatever profession they chose "for whatever you give will return to you tenfold." Her children and grandchildren certainly followed her vision of community service by becoming health professionals, nurses, and community and civic leaders. "Always reach for the stars," she would say, "even though you may only get to the moon...be all you can be, do all you can do, but whatever you do, do your best!" Jeanette is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milton Roy Sheen; daughter, Lucille Sheen West; parents, David and Mabel Brown; sister, Gloria, and brother, David. Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Barbara Sheen Todd; son, and daughter-in-law, Roy and Jan Sheen; sisters, Irene Welsh, Lillian Wilkinson, Adelle Lamana, and Tootsie Edwards; grandchildren, Kimberly Todd, Tamara Slayton, Tiffany Todd, Tom Todd Jr., Tanya Williams, Teri Smith, Milton Sheen, and Bryan Sheen; twenty two great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home on Monday, July 2nd. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, July 3rd at Sylvan Abbey United Methodist Church in Clearwater. Interment will follow in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park.
