Abstract (Document Summary)

Maybe more so. The minors have discovered a gold mine in sales of caps featuring weird logos. Tossing tradition aside, teams have been changing their names and logos like crazy. All in the name of sales.

"Anybody could get a Yankees hat, but how many guys could get a Tacoma hat?" asked Jeff Hannusch, wearing a green New Orleans Zephyrs model at a recent spring training game in Dunedin. "You used to have to send away to the teams to get them. Now you can find them anywhere."

Go to a spring game, and sure, you'll see Blue Jays hats, Yankees hats, Cardinals and Phillies hats. But you will probably also see a variety of minor league hats. They are the ones in hip '90s colors - teal, purple, black - with cartoonish logos: catfish, turtles, warthogs.
