South Florida quarterback Chad Barnhardt threw three interceptions Saturday night, including two that killed any chance of a rally in the fourth quarter.
USF rallied within 13-10 on Jermaine Clemons' 7-yard run with 12:11 left. The Bulls forced a punt, but on the next play, Barnhardt's deep left sideline throw was intercepted by strong safety Sam Wilkerson.
[Jim] Leavitt used backup quarterback Lance Hoeltke to start the second half. He wanted Barnhardt to get a sideline view of the defense. Hoeltke missed on three pass attempts, though, and Leavitt went back to Barnhardt.
