It isn't that the ideal mom and dad were more organized; they had fewer choices. Yesterday's mom stayed home; today's mom works. They paid cash; we have plastic -- from MasterCard to American Express. They went to the bank; we have a paper blizzard from payroll deposit and automatic tellers. They had a record player and records; we have audio-visual centers with records, tapes, compact discs and videos. They came right home after work; we go to the gym, the theater and night self-improvement classes. No wonder we can't find our car keys in the morning.
