[Gordon Hanson] is only the 65th person worldwide to undergo the microwave ablation surgery, which is performed at about four hospitals in the country, including St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, said Dr. Gary Dworkin, Hanson's surgeon.
Dr. Gary Dworkin, left, performs MicroMaze surgery on a 71-year- old man Monday. From right, physician's assistant Diana Hertel, surgical technician Brigid Halfpenny and anesthesiologist Dubra Jovanovic assist him at Largo Medical Center. The procedure allows doctors to surgically treat an irregular heartbeat without opening the chest.
