Counting microscopic blood vessels in breast tumors may give doctors a new way of predicting which patients are at high risk of having cancer spread to other organs, a study says.
Dr. Noel Weidner of the University of California, San Francisco, said the study shows the formation and number of new blood vessels in breast tumor samples provides an accurate forecast of the outcome of a cancer case and should be included in the diagnostic techniques used by doctors.
