AARP Free Income Tax Counseling: Volunteer tax counselors for the elderly are ready to help you with your returns. This program, sponsored by AARP, in cooperation with the IRS, is aimed at helping older Americans with their tax returns. Assistance is available in two ways: if preparing your own tax return and only need information call 576-3626. Volunteers will be on duty from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday to answer your questions. If you would like to have the AARP counselors help your prepare your tax return in person, they are located at local banks, community centers and neighborhood facilities which have been listed in the St. Petersburg Times. Bring a copy of last year's tax return, your 1099's, W-2 or W-2P, 1099 SSA and any other papers pertaining to your 1990 tax return. If none of the facilities are convenient for you, call 576-1155 in Pinellas county or 1-800-829-1040 and ask for the location nearest you.

Senior Spring Festival: Fort Lauderdale will play host to the nationally recognized Senior Spring Festival April 25 through April 28. The Festival will begin with a Senior Expo and Health Fair and free lectures the first day, followed by a safe driving event, tennis tournament, art workshop, cultural tour and awards reception on Friday. Saturday offers a day cruise and a big band dance. The Festival culminates with a grandparents/grandchildren breakfast on Sunday.
