BLANKENHORN, R. Marion 86, of Clearwater Beach, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Morton Plant Hospital. She was born in New York City Sept. 6, 1923 to Adam C. and Clara Wozeh Schery. She was a World War II veteran of the United States Marine Corps and employed for many years at Brooklyn Union Gas. Marion moved to Florida in the early 1960's and worked for Exxon Corp., Esso Inter-America Affiliate, in Human Resources for over 30 years until her retirement. In September 1946, she was married to Gaspar "[Gary Buhmeyer]" Bavetta who predeceased her. On June 4, 1995, she married Charles H. Blankenhorn, who predeceased her in 2006. Marion was also predeceased by two sisters, Rita Haskins and Jean Heisner. She is survived by a brother, Robert Schery. Several nieces and nephews also survive her, including Allen, Bruce and Charles Schery; Robert, Cathy, Kim and Gail Haskins; and [Susan Pendergraft] and Darrell Chlystun. Additionally, she is survived by her "Florida Family", Nanette Anderson, Maureen and Ken Aupperlee, David Barota, Martin Colbert, Tom, Zachary and Skylar Gorman and Bud Myers. Marion was a longstanding volunteer at the Shriners Hospital in Tampa and a member of the Belleair Country Club in Clearwater. She devoted many years of her life to the care of her mother and her sister Jean. She enjoyed cooking and traveling with her Charlie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital, Tampa. Graveside service on Oct. 12th at 11 am at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park.
MATTHES, Walter L. "Bud" 78, of St. Petersburg, passed away peacefully on Sept. 15, 2009, with his loving family in attendance. Born in Jennings, MO, Bud was known for his integrity, generosity and his sense of humor. In his youth, Bud was a cowboy and railroad man in Montana before his appointment to the United States Naval Academy (class of '55). Passionate about aviation, Bud left George Washington University after three years to attend the United States Naval Academy. He came to Pensacola for naval aviator training, and met and married the former Maureen Dwyer. Bud flew F-4D's off carriers as well as many other jets during his service, and was an engineer in civilian life. With five children and a full time job, Bud earned an MBA from Rollins College, graduating with a 4.0. Loving husband and father, he is survived by wife of 53 years, Maureen; daughters Elise and Kristin; sons Thomas (Harriet), Michael (Mara) and David ([Margaret Louise Carrick]); grand-daughters Kelly, Caitlin, Colleen, Sarah and Reagan; many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. Funeral services will be held on Oct. 3, 2009 at 11 am at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 1600 54th Avenue South, St. Petersburg. Friends & family are invited to an Oktoberfest celebration of Bud's life following the service. Interment will take place on Oct. 9, 2009 at 2:30 pm at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
