La Sociedad and the Ybor City Museum Society cherry-picked talented bands that perform original music for their outdoor event, Revolution and Renewal: A Contemporary View of Ybor City. How 'bout that! Candy Bars, a trio attracting national attention and murmurs of label signing, includes the stirring manchild vocal of Daniel Martinez, string-laced gentility of cellist Melissa Castellano and belly-socking tom of drummer Ryan Hastings. The Beauvilles have distilled a few genres such as roots rock, power pop and post punk into their own singular, radio-ready brew. Worldwide Zoo, on the contrary, is more of a stylistic salad, a crunchy toss of world beat, folk, rock and jazz. (There we go with the food. Is it lunch time?) In between, DJ Franco Silva of WMNF-FM 88.5 spins Latin music, and artwork by David Audet, Alyssa Davie, Guillermo Portieles, Dustin Kocinsky and others will be on display. Beer and wine will be for sale, with proceeds going to the Ybor City Museum.
Florida Orchestra Fri.-Sat. "Flash Cadillac: Rockin' at the Pops." The rock 'n' rollers from Flash Cadillac hit the big time as the prom band in American Graffiti. They played all the '70s staples from American Bandstand to Midnight Special and appeared in Apocalypse Now. Today the group does symphonic pops programs. Susan Haig, conductor. 8 p.m. Fri., Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, 1010 N W.C. MacInnes Place, Tampa; and 8 p.m. Sat., Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S, St. Petersburg. $17-$52. (813) 286-2403 or 1-800-662- 7286.
