Abstract (Document Summary)

"I'd been doing (submitting) nominations to the Michigan Aviation Hall of Fame in Kalamazoo -- a couple of them got in -- and started checking at the National Hall of Fame for his name. I kept going down the list and couldn't find it. I couldn't believe it. So I sent it (Kincheloe's nomination) in," [Daniel Hamill] recalled. "He made it on the first ballot."

Moving quickly was Kincheloe's calling card. He may not have been born with aviation in his blood but it developed at age 4, when he took his first airplane ride with a barnstormer who had stopped by his family's farm near Cassopolis. He learned to fly at the Niles airport, obtaining his pilot's license at age 16. After his 1945 graduation from what was then Dowagiac Central High School, he entered Purdue University to study aeronautical engineering.
