Abstract (Document Summary)

"This is one of the best, if not the best, amateur tournaments all year that we play," said Rickie Fowler, who is currently the world's No. 1-ranked amateur and was a quarterfinalist in last year's tournament. "I wish it would stay here at Point O'[Tiger Woods], but going into rotation I think is going to be pretty cool. We were talking about it (Monday) on the course, me and Tim Mickelson, when you think about the Western Amateur you think about Point O'Woods. It'll be a little different seeing it change."

"The reputation it has, the field it has," [Kyle Stanley] said when asked what brought him back for another try at the Western Amateur title. "It's going to be hard to find better competition elsewhere."

"This is a beautiful course, amazing," said Jack Newman, who won the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship on July 19 to earn an exemption to not only the Western Amateur but the U.S. Amateur and next year's Masters Tournament in Augusta, Ga. "(But) the course is tough; the greens are getting pretty firm. Everything runs out tremendously."
