Abstract (Document Summary)
McCord Middle School's marching band got new marching orders Thursday. They will be able to play the song, "Louie, Louie" during the Blossomtime Festival's Grand Floral Parade Saturday. In a letter sent home with McCord students, [Paula Dawning] said "Louie Louie" was not appropriate for Benton Harbor students to play while representing the district -- even though the marching band wasn't going to sing it. The controversy about the "Louie, Louie" lyrics is an urban legend. In the 1960s, when the song came out, there was a rumor that if you played the song on a very fast speed, the lyrics were obscene. The FBI investigated for two years and found it simply wasn't true. The song is about a sailor and his love. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.
