Abstract (Document Summary)

Ivan Golac - something of a managerial non-legend - lumbered [Jerren Nixon] with the GBP20m tag in an off-hand comment during a press conference shortly after the player's signing from ECM Motown in 1993.

Golac's albatross was still around his neck and after the Serb was sacked and United were relegated, Billy Kirkwood decided Nixon was a luxury he could do without in the first division. He was duly punted to FC Zurich for the princely sum of . . . GBP200,000.

Belying the cliche that Caribbean players cannot adapt to wintry climes, Nixon enjoyed a decent career in the Alps, also representing Yverdon and St Gallen. With the latter, he even helped knock Chelsea out of the UEFA Cup in 2000.
