Abstract (Document Summary)

[ROBERT Durward], owner of Cloburn Quarry, near Lanark, was the moving force behind the Scottish People's Alliance, which stood with two former Tory MSPs at the last Holyrood election and spent GBP490,000 of his money, yet fared poorly. It has since been renamed the New Party of Britain.

Durward pumped GBP393,000 into the New Party in 2005, up from GBP284,000 the previous year, according to the Cloburn's newly published accounts.

Cloburn still managed a bullish pre-tax profit of just under GBP4m in the year to September 30, up from GBP1.6m in 2004. Part of the increase was accounted for by a sharp fall in boardroom pay to just GBP76,000, from GBP1.3m in 2004.
