Abstract (Document Summary)

Crossrail's centrepiece is the A-listed Mercat building at Glasgow Cross, once one of the city's busiest railway stations. SPTwants to turn it into "effectively Glasgow's third station".

In addition, according to the SPT report, the games would bring a need for new stations at Parkhead Forge in the east end and Jordanhill in the west, and would spur plans to revive a 120-year- old rail line in Glasgow's east end.

A bill for the GBP160m Glasgow airport rail link was recently introduced at Holyrood which, if given the go-ahead, would link Glasgow airport and Central Station by 2009.
