Abstract (Document Summary)

For mirthful confirmation check out ITV's forthcoming comedy drama, The Grimleys, which makes inventive and hilarious mockery of social conditions as they pertained on council schemes the length and breadth of Britain way back when in the golden age of sartorial bad taste which was 1975.

The Grimleys replicates all these things and more - albeit in a gormless-sounding Black Country accent - within a fully-rounded drama that's midway between Adrian Mole and Gregory's Girl. There's also the occasional knowing wink in acknowledgement of the smuttier mores of the Carry On films.

Written by Jed Mercurio, the author of Cardiac Arrest, and created by Granada TV, The Grimleys is set in Dudley in and around the Jericho council estate and its nearby dead-end secondary modern school. The school's staffroom is enlivened by two artists whose reputations were forged outwith the realm of TV acting.
