IT LOOKS odds-on that Brian McClair will cut short his second stint as a Motherwell player to take up the No.2 position at Blackburn under new manager Brian Kidd.

Ironically, he was among the candidates quoted as a likely successor to Kidd as the No.2 to Alex Ferguson at Manchester United but it is Kidd who has made the move to take his fellow Scot south again.

Both were long-term members of the Ferguson Old Trafford team, one as a coach and the other as a player, and Kidd has wasted little time since he took up his new challenge at Blackburn, signing former Manchester United winger Keith Gillespie from Newcastle United for #2.35m yesterday.
