1Sabina Cimpeanu, with her parents, Cristina and Floren, who brought her to hospital in Edinburgh from Romania. The six-month- old suffers from a rare form of hepatoblastoma, a liver condition that affects one in a million children each year. The couple, from Bucharest, contacted Jon Pritchard, a consultant at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh and one of a small number of experts on the condition, and decided to make the journey abroad, raising [pounds]8500 with the help of family and friends. The couple earn only [pounds]150 a month, but need [pounds]25,500 to cover the cost of Sabina's treatment. They are not sure they will be able to afford Sabina's surgery in September.
