When thousands of union members and public employees descended on Madison earlier this year to protest Gov. Scott Walker's budget proposal that severely restricted collective bargaining rights, teachers became the lightning rod for those who believed public employees do too little and earn too much. Daun, whose salary is $67,950, has taken classes in technology to better communicate with her students and help them learn, she attends workshops and does research online and at the library on social studies and other topics she teaches in class and she puts together all the teaching materials she will need on her own.
