CUNNIFF, CATHERINE (KAY) ENRIGHT Catherine (Kay) Enright Cunniff, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2006 at age 84. Kay was born in Chicago on August 3, 1922 and attended St. Timothy's grammar school, St. Scholastic H.S. and Mundelein College. She served as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Kay married the love of her life, Jim Cunniff on August 4, 1948 and served as his 'straight man' until he passed away in 1984. Jim and Kay moved to San Diego, California in 1974, residing in University City, Mira Mesa and Rancho Bernardo. After the death of her husband Jim, Kay ran the family business for many years. Kay was preceded in death by her husband Jim and her son Jim Jr. Kay is survived by her brother John Enright of Evanston, Illinois, her sisters Louise Moran of Itasca, Illinois and Joan Hader of Freeport, Illinois, and daughters Mary Cunniff Kelley of San Diego, Margaret Holm of Olympia Washington, and Colleen Huang of San Diego. Kay loved not only her grandchildren but all little children. She provided day care for many years both at home and as a volunteer at San Rafael parish in Rancho Bernardo. Her loving care survives in her grandchildren Daniel Cunniff Kelley, Macaire Hayes, Carlye and Kelsi Cunniff, Matthew Cunniff Holm, Catherine Enright Holm and Christopher Cunniff Holm, [Kevin], Brian and Connor Huang and her great-grandchildren Casey Kelley and Benjamin Hayes. A Funeral Mass will be held at San Rafael Catholic Church in Rancho Bernardo at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13th. A private commemorative ceremony will also be held at a later date at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. GELARDI, LEONILDA FRANCIS Leonilda Francis Gelardi passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 4, 2006 in San Diego, California. Mrs. Gelardi was predeceased by her husband Charles, her 'precious perfect' son Salvatore and her loving grandson Tomas Joaquin Estrada. 'Granny Grape Nuts', as she was called by her family, was deeply loved, cherished, respected, admired and adored by everyone who knew her. There are no words to describe how much we will all miss her. Leonilda is survived by her daughters Antoinette Saraspe and Diane Estrada, her grandchildren Elizabeth Quessenberry, Andres Saraspe, Alexandra Pettus, Antonio Estrada, Ryan Gelardi, and her great-grandchildren [Nicole Fairhurst] and Julia Quessenberry, Tanner, Charlie and Molly Saraspe, Georgica and Harry Pettus, Tasco Estrada and Leo Gelardi. She also leaves leaves behind two sisters, Jeannie Gaudini and Anna Amatore of Miami, Florida, her brother Louis Amatore in Clairemont, California and her nieces and nephews Kimmy and Steve Gaudini, and Louis and Ellen Amatore. RAY, NINA Nina Ray born on March 8, 1913 the daughter of Henry Spurgeon and Elizabeth Shores of New Mexico, Nina was a resident of Spring Valley, California for over 60 years. Nina passed away in her Spring Valley home on October 1, 2006 surrounded by her loving family. Nina was 93 years old. Nina was married to the love of her life, Gilbert Ray, for 62 years; they were married on October 1, 1932 in San Diego. They remained an active, devoted couple with many private and public activities. They were very involved in local and state politics and were founding members of the Singing Hills Country Club. Nina's husband Gilbert passed away from natural causes on October 14, 1994. Nina was a strong, caring and compassionate woman who worked very hard at taking care of her family. During WWII Nina worked as a foreman in the transportation department of The Ryan Aeronautical Company. After the war she became a California Real Estate Broker. Nina and her husband developed and managed properties in the East County of San Diego for many years. Nina will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Nina is survived by her son Gilbert Ray Jr. of Reno, Nevada, and her daughter Diane E. Johnson of Seattle, Washington. Nina is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A private memorial service to celebrate Nina Ray's life will be held October 14, 2006.
