Mary Nakayou -- who has four children attending college, high school, middle school and in the fourth grade at Mamie Towles Elementary -- said that socializing kids before kindergarten was equally important as the academic preparation. The Washoe County School District has 14 sites with pre-K classrooms financed through federal Title I funds given to schools that have a high percentage of students who come from low-income families.
