[Frank Sieverts] said he was uncertain when [Claiborne Pell] would arrive, how long he would stay or whether he would be accompanied by any of the other 11 senators attending arms control talks in Geneva with him.

Pell was a Foreign Service officer assigned to Bratislava, a city on the Danube River in southern Czechoslovakia, when the troops invaded, Sieverts said. Before that, he had been assigned to Prague, Sieverts said.
