Abstract (Document Summary)

Barbie, who joins the over-30 crowd this year, also joins the armed forces, said Barbie spokeswoman Candace Irving. It's a drastic career change for the "teenage fashion model" of old, but Barbie traditionalists needn't fear. Her makers, Mattel Toys, are introducing other dolls this year that include Beach Blast, Style Magic and SuperStar Barbie.

Frantz figures to have some clout because his scouts last year helped city park rangers plant 500 tulips as part of a $1 million project that restored the crumbling and graffiti-covered plaza. City Councilman Abraham Gerges is willing to go along with Frantz. Gerges has asked the city to spend the $55,000 to turn the bronze statue with a crane.

Included on various boxes will be several Journal-Bulletin strips - Beetle Bailey by Mort Walker, Hagar the Horrible by Dik Browne, Hi and Lois by Walker and Browne, Family Circus by Bil Keane, Dennis the Menace by Hank Ketcham, and Funky Winkerbean by Tom Batiuk.
