Providence Journal

Providence, R.I.
Investment expert [Peter Lynch] today offers some answers. Lynch, 49, of Marblehead, Mass., was the hugely successful portfolio manager of the giant Fidelity Magellan mutual fund of Boston. In his new book, Beating the Street, published last week, Lynch tells readers how to use their experience and common sense to pick winning stocks and mutual funds. He shows how students at the St. Agnes School, near Boston, outperform investment professionals, and how he gets investment ideas on shopping trips to a mall in Burlington, Mass. A: If people say, 'I'm not worried because I'm in mutual funds,' they've made a big mistake, because equity mutual funds are very volatile. . . . Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.
