Abstract (Document Summary)

Tripler Pell, the 28-year-old granddaughter of former Sen. [Claiborne Pell] deB. and Nuala Pell, will celebrate her wedding on Saturday in a Newport ceremony and reception that melds her American heritage with her groom's Moroccan traditions.

A non-denominational wedding ceremony will be officiated by the Rev. Peter J. Gomes, minister of the Memorial Church at Harvard University and a religion professor at the college. The groom's uncle, Saad Baddou, ambassador from Morocco to Hungary and Croatia, will deliver additional words in French and English, and welcome Tripler Pell to the family. Hammoud, who grew up in Morocco and Paris, speaks English, French, Spanish and Arabic fluently.

The couple's siblings will be part of the wedding processional, as will Hammoud's parents. (His father will wear a suit; his mother, a caftan.) Tripler Pell will walk down the aisle to the minister and Hammoud's uncle (in a suit) on the arm of her father, who, she said, plans to wear a suit. She was keeping details about her gown and caftan a secret until the wedding day.
