Providence, R.I.
Rep. Kevin Poirier announced yesterday that after 23 years of service he is resigning his 14th Bristol District post to concentrate on his new job at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. The couple announced their plans at a news conference in their Grove Street living room. Many of Poirier's colleagues had been speculating on his plans since he became the hospital's director of development last fall. Poirier will submit his resignation to House Speaker Thomas Finneran's office on Monday. He said Finneran will announce the special election date when he accepts Poirier's letter.
