Abstract (Document Summary)

The 16-year-old Alias Stage, one of Providence's pioneer Off Trinity theaters, will change its name next month to The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre.

Neither Alias officials nor [Alan Shawn] Feinstein would specify the amount of the grant. But sources close to the theater confirm it is about $100,000. Alias Stage's budget last year was just under $70,000 and will be just under $100,000 for the coming theater year.

The theater plans to use the money to become a fully professional house, using actors affiliated with Equity, the actors' union. Officials also want to find a new theater space, and to market the theater as Providence's second Equity house. The Trinity Repertory Company is the other.
