Aug 12. Michael Veracka's Edible Garden and Southside Community Land Trust, Providence. See Michael Verecka's edible landscape. See Southside's use of recycled materials, a passive solar greenhouse, honey bees, chickens, rabbits and children's garden. 5:30-7:30 pm.

May 30. Peter Harrison Building Tour, Newport. Guided tour focusing on Colonial architect Peter Harrison's Newport buildings. Behind-the-scenes tour of three of the oldest public buildings in Newport: The Brick Market (1762), Touro Synagogue (1763) and Redwood Library (1748). Also included are private domestic buildings, Vernon House and Francis Malbone Inn. Two tours leave at 10 am. 10 am-2 pm. $35, $25 AIA members; includes gourmet buffet lunch served on Vanderbilt Hall terrace at noon. Tickets will not be sold day of tour. Rain date May 31. 846-9583.

June 12-14. Festival of Historic Houses, sponsored by Providence Preservation Society, 21 Meeting St., Providence. Tours of private homes and gardens in three different neighborhoods. Dining with History Lunch and Tour, Fri noon-3:30 pm (tour only 1:30-3:30 pm). Candlelight Tour, Fri 5-10 pm. House and Garden Tours, Sat 10 am-2 pm, 1-5 pm.
