Abstract (Document Summary)

As in past years, too many potters overload shelves with look- alike ashtrays, mugs and lamps. A ho-hum tone of sweet nostalgia pervades booth after booth glutted with paintings and color photographs of tropical plants, seascapes and such endearing scenes as water mills, quilts and country stores. None of that is out of the ordinary for an art festival. What is out of the ordinary in Maitland is the consistently high level of quality, however kitschy some of the pieces may be. That's a refreshing change at any festival, but at Maitland it is a delight.
