Tohopekaliga, the first large lake drained by the game commission, has become the state's restoration showcase because it was a success beyond anyone's expectations. Extensive mats of hydrilla, a rapidly growing plant that elbows out native vegetation, were destroyed and muck -- three to four feet thick -- solidified.
