Abstract (Document Summary)

After [JOHN LENNON]'s death, the song quickly became the second No. 1 of his solo career. Double Fantasy also vaulted to the top of the charts, yielded three more hits and won the Grammy for best album of the year. (Naturally, five of his older albums also charted again.) "Starting Over" took on a horrible irony, intensifying the world's grief over Lennon's death and its untimeliness. And with the grief, the already sizable Lennon legend grew to even more legendary proportions. Lennon became not only a martyr but a saint - with his widow Yoko Ono as keeper of the flame. Even Albert Goldman's much- reviled warts-and-more biography, The Lives of John Lennon, failed to diminish the legend for long.
