GEORGE CLINTON
[3 STAR Edition]
Orlando Sentinel
-
Orlando, Fla.
No one has supplied more fodder for rap's voracious sampling maw than Clinton and his constellation of funk groups - Parliament, Funkadelic, Parlet, P-Funk All-Stars, etc. So it's only fitting that Clinton called on some of his hip-hop disciples for Hey Man. He doesn't need them to create a thoroughly contemporary sound. They got that sound from him in the first place. But it's time that fans of Dr. Dre, Humpty Hump, Ice Cube, Yo-Yo, MC Breed and others saw a closer connection drawn between their heroes and their heroes' heroes - including not just Clinton but P-Funk luminaries Bernie Worrell, Bootsy Collins, Catfish Collins, Gary "Mudbone" Cooper, Blackbird McKnight, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker and Garry Shider.
